Beauty and Power
Welcome to Fall Semester 2017 at Morehouse College!
Whether you begin this semester as a freshman or an upperclassman, I do hope you are planning strategically for a successful semester by prioritizing your classes, avoiding the temptation to overextend yourself via activities that may be enriching but that may keep you from the time necessary to fulfill your academic responsibilities.
Let part of your success strategy involve discipline, that is, a willingness to attend class regularly and to tackle confidentially course assignments even when the work is challenging. Take time to forge relationships, visiting your professors during office hours to clarify ideas introduced in class and engaging with like-minded classmates who will encourage you as you progress through the semester. Additionally, be certain to balance your academic work responsibilities with those activities that will allow you time for spiritual reflection, exercise, and recreation.
This semester, I pray that both you and I will be like peacocks in flight, a picture of beauty and power, individuals whose already beautiful souls advance in our abilities to read, write, and think critically so that we are empowered to make choices and decisions that will be life-giving for ourselves and those with whom we live.
